The MICROIDEA Consortium is pleased to share significant progress in the ongoing project aimed at enhancing the tourism sector’s labour market understanding. Our partners from Spain, Greece, and Cyprus have recently successfully completed focus groups with key representatives from the business, tourist, and public sectors. These focus groups are an integral part step in our research to identify the current and emerging occupations and skills in demand within the tourism industry.
Objectives of the Focus Groups:
- Engagement: Discuss with representatives from the business and tourism sectors to provide context of the most occupations in demand in the tourism sector, the skills required and the skills that are lacking.
- Identification: Identify the occupations in demand in the tourism sector across the piloting countries.
- Skills Assessment: Evaluate the occupational, vertical and horizontal skills needed in the industry.
- Strategy Discussion: Explore the best strategies to manage skill shortages.
Next Steps
With the completion of these focus groups, we are now moving to the next phase of our project. This involves compiling the data and insights gained from the discussions to prepare a comprehensive needs analysis. This analysis will serve as the backbone of the MICROIDEA project, informing and structuring all subsequent outputs.
The needs analysis will provide a thorough understanding of the labour market dynamics in the tourism sector, ensuring that our future initiatives are well-grounded and effectively targeted to meet the sector’s requirements.
We thank all participants for their invaluable contributions and look forward to the continued collaboration as we advance this important project. Stay tuned for further updates as we progress with our needs analysis and subsequent project phases.
